This experience will always be burnt in Rachel’s memory of what not to say to a client! This family home was built from scratch with lots of love. The wife hand-picked all the home’s furniture and artwork – she is very proud to call this place her home.
Her husband wanted a new home, so bought land and started a build for the next chapter of their lives. His wife made it very clear she did not like the sell my house idea, as it was her home and she was not ready to let go. Rachel joked and said, “there is a win-win scenario here that will make both of you happy. Divorce your husband, he gets the new home and you get to keep this one”.
Rachel is not saying that is what happened but says never offer that as a solution when selling a house! This did hinder our sold at the first open home streak we were on, as the nine homes before this one all sold on the first viewing. This one took three months to sell.
This family knew they didn’t need a stylist to do home staging as they already had impeccable taste, they just needed a very good clean to bring it to a showroom finish and then weekly cleans to ensure it stayed clean for each open home.
